What is the Noorani Qaida?
The Noorani Qaida is a short, carefully sequenced primer used across the Muslim world to teach Quranic Arabic reading. It does not teach you the meaning of Arabic words — it teaches your mouth and eyes to handle the Arabic script accurately, so that when you open the mushaf you are reading rather than guessing.
It matters because mistakes made at this stage are extremely hard to undo later. A student who learns the letter ض as a heavy "d" from the wrong articulation point will carry that mistake through years of recitation. Getting the Qaida right the first time saves years of correction.
Who this course is for
This course assumes nothing. Whether you are a five-year-old opening an Arabic book for the first time or a forty-year-old who has always intended to learn and never had the chance, you start at the same place and move at your own pace.

How the online classes work
Classes are live and one-on-one over Zoom or Google Meet — never pre-recorded, never in a group. Your tutor shares the Qaida page on screen, models each letter, listens to you repeat it, and corrects the shape of your mouth and tongue in real time. That immediate correction loop is the entire reason one-on-one works so much better than an app or a video course for this stage.
Lessons are 30 minutes because that is roughly how long focused articulation practice stays productive, especially for young children. Most families take 2–3 classes a week and see fluent letter recognition within the first two months.
Why start with a qualified tutor rather than an app
Apps and YouTube playlists can show you what a letter looks like, but they cannot hear you. Arabic has letters that do not exist in English — ع, ح, ق, ط, ص — and every one of them is routinely mispronounced by self-taught learners who have no one to tell them they are wrong.

Course curriculum

Stage 1 — Individual letters
Recognise and correctly pronounce all 28 Arabic letters in isolation, with the correct makhraj (articulation point) for each.

Stage 2 — Letter forms and joining
Read letters in their initial, medial and final forms, and read two- and three-letter joined combinations.

Stage 3 — Harakat and short vowels
Apply fatha, kasra and damma accurately, then move to tanween and read short vowelled words.

Stage 4 — Sukoon, shadda and madd
Handle silent letters, doubled letters and the elongation rules that govern rhythm in recitation.

Stage 5 — Reading short surahs
Apply everything learned to Surah Al-Fatihah and the short surahs of Juz Amma, reading directly from the mushaf.

Noorani Qaida — frequently asked questions
With 2–3 classes per week, most children complete the Qaida in four to six months and most adults in three to five. Progress depends far more on consistent short daily practice than on the number of classes booked.
